The Certified Food Safety and Quality Auditor (CFSQA)® certification validates a professional’s ability to audit food safety and HACCP-based (or process-safety) systems. CFSQAs utilize various tools and techniques to examine, evaluate, and report on the adequacy of such systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards. The certification is a mark of excellence, confirming expertise in quality auditing and food safety management.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of the CFSQA® certification, professionals will:
- Understand and apply food safety and HACCP principles.
- Implement and maintain a robust food safety management system.
- Conduct audits using internationally recognized methodologies.
- Evaluate and report on process safety and quality adherence.
- Utilize quality tools and techniques to enhance food safety standards.
Exam Information:
Candidates must pass a multiple-choice examination assessing comprehension of the CFSQA Body of Knowledge. The exam is available in two formats:
- Computer-Based Testing (CBT): 145 multiple-choice questions (135 scored, 10 unscored). Total appointment time: 4.5 hours (exam time: 4 hours, 18 minutes).
- Paper-Based Testing: 135 multiple-choice questions. Exam duration: 4 hours.
- All exams are open book, and candidates may bring reference materials and a calculator as per ASQ guidelines.
Results for CBT exams are available immediately, while paper-based results may take longer.
Re-Certification:
Required every three years.
- Options: Earn 18 recertification units (RUs) through professional development or retake the exam.
- Grace Period: 60 days after the due date.
- Synchronization: ASQ allows multiple certifications to be synchronized.
Eligibility:
- Work Experience: Five years of full-time experience in the CFSQA Body of Knowledge.
- Decision-Making Role: At least one year with authority to define, execute, or control projects and processes.
Education Waivers: Candidates with formal education from an accredited institution may qualify for experience waivers:
- Technical/Trade School Diploma – 1 year waived
- Associate’s Degree – 1 year waived
- Bachelor’s Degree – 3 years waived
- Master’s/Doctorate Degree – 4 years waived
